Free Your Tech!

About Free Your Tech!

Free Your Tech Association is a Copenhagen-based 'frivillig forening' (voluntary association), working together to create a more independent digital future.

Our Vision

We believe everyone deserves control over their digital lives. In a world dominated by Big Tech, we're building paths to digital independence as a grassroots movement. We want a future where technology serves people and communities, and we are in control of our own devices.

What We Do

Our activities focus on three main areas:

  1. Community Infrastructure
    • Maintaining shared digital infrastructure
    • Creating open blueprints for self-hosting solutions
    • Supporting FOSS projects and community-run platforms
  2. Knowledge Liberation
    • Building practical guides for digital independence
    • Organizing hands-on workshops and training
    • Fostering peer-to-peer learning spaces
  3. Digital Rights Advocacy
    • Raising awareness about tech dependency risks
    • Engaging in policy-making and digital rights education
    • Promoting digital freedom through community outreach

What we can help with in the short term is sharing knowledge with our members through articles and discussions. We started building a knowledge base here but we still need help adding more information.

On the medium term we will set up services on our own infrastructure, so you don't have to. The low hanging fruit is cloud storage and online office, and the cooperative will soon have its own Nextcloud server to fill that need for the members. Afterwards we'll take a look at what brings the most value to our members and communites. Perhaps a community wiki, a private and secure messaging service, a forum, or something completely different.

On the longer term we want become a blueprint for similar organisations around the world, and perhaps influential enough to affect real change on a political and legislative level.

Our Values

  • Pragmatism: Solutions that work in the real world
  • Freedom: Technology should empower and liberate
  • Privacy: Your data and digital life belong to you, not corporations
  • Community: We grow stronger through mutual support and shared knowledge
  • Transparency: We maintain open processes and honest communication
